Distant and empty
Disconnected from her heart
Dying in her arms

Susi Bocks latest Haiku challenge was to write an interpretation of Egon Schiele’s painting, “Dead Mother,” in the form of a haiku.
My poem above is a Senryu, a poem similar to a Haiku with the same syllabic form, but a different theme compared to a traditional seasonal/nature theme in the traditional Haiku. The theme of a Senryu “only references to some aspect of human nature or emotions,” detailed on Shadow Poetry’s site.

I don’t even need an image. This is raw and real. Thanks for participating, Jason!
